Crane's School

for Orphans

Listen to Timothy tell about Crane School.
(The second half is about LEU- Leadership Education Uganda.)

Timothy was born in Uganda, Africa. He always wanted to be a teacher, but his father wanted him to be a computer scientist. He went to a University in Uganda and became a computer scientist, but he only worked as one for 1 month. His desire to be a teacher outweighed his need for security so he decided to look for a job as a teacher. However, because he didn't have a teaching degree no one would hire him except for a school in a small village and they told him they wouldn't pay him. He worked for them anyway and when his father found out he was working as a teacher he disowned him.

Timothy met a man named Wahab and convinced him to leave his job and start their own school- a school for orphans. Timothy told him "You can keep working here and you'll be underpaid and unhappy. However, if you come with me you'll still be underpaid, but you'll be happy." They traveled around in large vans and collected orphans off the streets in Uganda and together they founded Crane Primary school. In order to pay for the orphans Timothy brought in other students. As of now there are 328 orphans at Crane and 700 children altogether.

How I (Elise) got involved in this project:

"We weren't going to have anything to eat, so today you're our savior." These are the words Timothy said to me the day I left Uganda after my internship with LEU- words that continually replay in my mind. I had 80,000 shillings ($50) I was going to spend on souveniers but I couldn't do it. I had this feeling (which was more like a command) that the money wasn't mine, but that I must give it to Timothy. I didn't realize that it would mean 328 orphans wouldn't go hungry that day.

When I returned home I knew I had to do something about the state Crane School was in. Since then I've created this website and the video at www.TimothysOrphans.org/Compassion, given presentations, and talked to hundreds of people about Timothy's dream to help Ugandan orphans. Thank you for all your support and love - together we can help Timothy feed, clothe, and educate Uganda's orphans.
